Before getting into the rules of tournament, I feel it's necessary to bring up
the subject of THE PUBLIC. Invariably, the public will come to you to ask questions
about a variety of medieval subjects. Please excercize the utmost courtesy and either
answer their questions or direct them to someone who can. They're there to see, learn,
and experience.

Also you, the Medieval fighter, represent an icon of heroism and chivalry to the
public. Don't let them down. You're a hero in their eyes. It's not just you and
your opponent in the lists! The spectators out there, cheering you on!

TOURNAMENT GUIDELINES

LEVEL 2

Target areas include FRONT TORSO, UPPER & LOWER ARM, THIGH, CALF.
HEAD shots are to be within 12 degrees of vertical.
LEVEL 3
Full-force shots are allowed to all armored parts of the body.
The EXCEPTIONES ARE FACE, GROIN, AND THROAT.
Thrusts are allowed anywhere below the nipples, except the groin area.

Tournament Rules
1. There should be three or more Marshalls/Judges per pair of combtants.
(Three can cover more angles of action than one or two.)
2. Any decision, regarding valid hits, is obtained by the consensus of
the majority of the Marshalls/Judges.
3. A combatant wins when he ore she scores three good hits on an
opponent. A "double kill" (both are hit simultaneously) will result in
disqualifying both hits. After two consecutive double-kills, the judges will
award a hit by judgement. The Marshalls will award the hit to the contestant
who displayed the most skill, finesse, and dominance of the bout.
4. A "Good Hit" is that which could have inflicted an injury in real
combat (as judged by the Marshalls/Judges). A glancing blow or light touch
counts as nothing.
Excessive Force is difficult to guage, but will not be tollerated. It is
the responsability of each contender to deliver sufficient force to score points,
but not enough to injure the opponent. Anyone judged as using excessive force
will be ejected from the tournament. A win-at-all-cost attitude defies the
guidelines of chivalry and will not be allowed in practice or competition.
5. POINTS:
a. The victor of a bout will be granted 2 points.
b. In a prolonged, tied bout, each combatant will be granted 1 point.
c. At the end of the tournament, the combatant with the most points will
be named the winner of that tournament.
d. In the event of a tournament tie, tied combatants will engage in final
bouts to determine the ultimate winner.
NOTE: TIES:
There will come a time, when by virtue of great skill or a lack of skill, a bout
will continue on and on, always ending in a tie. Under such a condition, it is
up to the Marshall/Judge to determine how to end the bout. The judge may call
it a tie, and thereby award both contestants one point each. The judge may also
elect to award a win to one of the opponents, based on any evident superiority,
such as refined technique, obvious chivalrous conduct, etc.
Of course, the decision of a judge will be final.
Prizes will be awarded, such as a goblet, dagger, sword, clothing, helmet;
in essence, some item useful to the contender. Money will not be awarded.
